Itinerary

Day by day

1. 1

   Mekelle – Berhale – Hamad Ela

   Depart from Mekelle and drive toward the small town of Berhale, where you will stop for lunch and finalize the local permit process. From Berhale, continue your journey into the heart of the Danakil region, a remote and dramatic landscape known for its harsh conditions and extraordinary natural beauty. By late afternoon, arrive near Lake Assale, where you can enjoy the sunset over the salt flats before continuing to your camping area in Hamad Ela.

   Hamad Ela – Dallol – Erta Ale

   Wake up early and drive to Dallol, one of the most colorful and otherworldly places in the Danakil Depression. Explore its unique geothermal landscapes, mineral formations, salt structures, and bubbling hot springs. After lunch, continue to the northern part of the Danakil toward Erta Ale. In the evening, experience the powerful volcanic scenery of Erta Ale, one of Ethiopia’s most famous active volcanoes. Spend the night near the volcanic rim for a truly unforgettable desert experience.

   Erta Ale – Lake Afdera – Mekelle

   Experience Erta Ale once again during sunrise, when the volcanic landscape becomes even more dramatic under the morning light. After breakfast, travel to Lake Afdera, where you can enjoy a relaxing swim and lunch by the lake. After visiting Lake Afdera, continue the drive back to Mekelle, where the tour ends.
